A lioness rests in the branches of an acacia tree, one paw on the lichen-covered trunk, her amber eyes fixed on something beyond the frame. Shot from below, with the blue sky breaking through the leaves behind her, the image feels close and alert at the same time.
I photographed this lioness in Tanzania. Lions climb trees to escape the heat and the insects on the ground, and to keep watch over the plains. It is a warm, calm wildlife portrait for a living room, study, office or hotel, and it works well in interiors with natural, earthy or green tones.
