Storm over Eilean Donan: Scottish castle wall art in black and white
Dark storm clouds hang over Eilean Donan Castle, one of the most iconic castles in Scotland. It stands on a small island where three sea lochs meet: Loch Duich, Loch Long and Loch Alsh. An old stone arched bridge links the island to the shore, while the mountains of the Western Highlands rise behind it and a break in the clouds lets the light fall across the slopes.
The water was almost perfectly still. The castle is mirrored in the loch, with loose strands of seaweed drifting on the surface. In black and white, the image is all about light, form and atmosphere: the brooding sky, the soft sheen on the water and the silhouette of the castle against the hillside.
I took this photograph while travelling through the Western Highlands on the way to the Isle of Skye. I chose black and white on purpose, to bring out the timeless, slightly mysterious character of this place, like a scene from an old Scottish legend.
The wide landscape format works best in a large size, above a sofa, in a living room, study or long hallway. It pairs well with wood, linen, stone and a calm palette of grey, black and white, in both modern and classic interiors.
Available as a black and white landscape print in several sizes and materials, shipped to Europe and 30 other countries.
