An African elephant meets your gaze, ears spread wide, trunk reaching forward. Tanzania.
Face to face: elephant wall art from Tanzania
An African elephant stands in the tall grass of the Tanzanian savanna and looks straight at you. Ears spread wide, trunk stretched forward, long curved tusks catching the light. Behind it, a second elephant grazes quietly among the acacia trees under a sky full of clouds. It is a moment of tension and calm at once: the presence of the largest land animal on earth, and the ease of the herd around it.
I photographed this elephant in Tanzania, close enough to see every crease in its skin. Spread ears are how an elephant makes itself look bigger, a way of saying this is my space. The warm black and white treatment keeps the attention where it belongs: on the texture of the skin, the folds of the trunk and that steady, watchful eye.
This is a print that needs room. On a large wall above a sofa, bed or sideboard, the elephant becomes almost life-sized in presence. The black and white works with wood, linen, stone and earthy or neutral tones, in modern, Scandinavian, industrial or Japandi interiors, and gives an office, practice or hotel lobby a calm, powerful focal point.
Available as a wildlife photo print in several sizes and materials, shipped to Europe and 30 other countries.
