Into the Light: red poppy wall art on a dark background
A single red poppy catches the last light of the day. Its thin petals glow like silk, while the background falls away into deep, dark teal. Below it, a second bloom rests in the shadow, like a quiet echo of the first. The strong contrast between the bright red and the calm, dark surroundings turns a simple wildflower into a still, painterly portrait.
I took this photograph in a field in Sint-Michielsgestel, in the south of the Netherlands. Every summer it fills with poppies, cornflowers and other wildflowers. It is a beautiful sight and a wonderful place to slow down. This time I did not have to travel far: the field is just a few minutes' walk from my home. Sometimes the most beautiful things are right around the corner.
The portrait format and dark tones make this print a good fit for a hallway, bedroom, study or narrow wall, or above a sideboard. The red stands out beautifully against dark walls, wood, linen and earthy tones. On a light wall, it becomes a warm and striking accent.
