This lion portrait is part of Wild Souls, a black and white fine art series created entirely with AI. It's part of an ongoing exploration into new generative techniques — pushing them toward the same deep chiaroscuro and high-contrast look found in traditional wildlife photography, rather than the smoother, flatter look AI images often default to.
Wild Souls also lets me create powerful animal portraits between actual expeditions — safari trips take time, and I can't always be in the field. This series is a way to keep working with the animals that matter to me, one eye and one expression at a time, half the face given over to shadow.
